Sorry for the bad pun in the title, guys.
This is a juvenile Western Screech-Owl at a raptor rehabilitation center, ready to be released. He's standing atop a box posted to a tree we have in their flight cage to give them a spot to roost. One of the reasons I like young Western Screech-Owls is that their juvenile plumage looks a lot like their baby plumage. Unfortunately, fluffy baby/juvenile plumage isn't quite capable of achieving the narrow "I'm a dead branch" feather posture of the adult plumage ([link]).
