Description
This sketch depicts one of tne of the critically endangered O'ahu Tree Snails, Achatinella sowerbyana. All 41 species in this genus--whose shells were traditionally included in leis and other ornamentation--are endangered or critically endangered. They subsist upon fungus growing on the surfaces of native Hawaiian plants, many of which are also critically endangered due to competition with invasive plant species. Invasive animal species such as the Jackson's Chameleon, carnivorous Rosy Wolfsnail, and rats predate the O'ahu Tree Snails, and they are sensitive to habitat disturbance. They are now found primarily within a few protected regions of forest above 1300 ft, with population estimate for this species at ~100 individuals remaining.

Hawaii has so many invasive species that threaten its unique endemic species
Have you seen this video about a mechanical trap for rats that doesn't use poison? Wonder if it would work on Hawaiian islands...
